After the mass evacuations from south Lebanon, the Bekaa, and the southern suburbs of Beirut this week, and a wave of Israeli strikes on these regions, several hundred thousand displaced people have fled to safer areas, particularly in the north and especially towards Akkar.

Led by Governor Imad Labaki, a crisis management cell is coordinating the reception and care of the displaced with several relevant ministries, including Social Affairs, Education, and the Interior, as well as the Disaster Management Unit of the Council of Ministers. New mechanisms have been put in place to register displaced families and assign them to approved shelters and host homes.

Many committees, associations, and local institutions have mobilized, our correspondent in north Lebanon explains, declaring a state of alert in order to ensure the necessary logistics and provide essential needs, in cooperation with the Lebanese Red Cross and some international donor organizations.

However, one week after the start of this gradually worsening crisis, some shortages have begun to appear, necessitating additional measures to fill the gaps, particularly regarding the supply of water, electricity and food, especially in most of the accommodation centers.

According to sources following the work of this crisis unit, as well as municipal federations and the municipalities themselves, these actors are making exceptional efforts despite limited financial means. Individual initiatives are also helping provide a minimum level of resources, complementing the significant assistance from host families.

In this context, the crisis management cell has announced that, according to data provided by the operations cells of the municipal federations, municipalities, and representatives of the Ministry of Social Affairs at the accommodation centers, the total number of displaced people registered in Akkar amounts to 1,461 families, or 5,472 individuals.

These are divided between 246 families in accommodation centers and 1,215 families with host communities, across 65 localities in Akkar — 106 families more than the previous day.
