SOUTH LEBANON — Israel continued its military operations and air strikes across southern Lebanon on Sunday, according to reports by our correspondent in the region. Israel carried out another demolition in the border village of Houla (Marjayoun) following multiple explosions in recent days, prompting the municipal president to sound the alarm.
Speaking to our correspondent, the mayor of Houla said that 90% of the village’s homes and infrastructure have been destroyed by Israeli strikes, shellings, and demolitions. Israel destroyed ten houses on Thursday, then eight on Friday, and a further ten on Saturday. He added that Israeli forces detonated on Saturday a senior community center that was housing the municipality’s temporary offices. Israeli forces also set fire to forests and agricultural fields, resulting in the loss of a large number of fruit trees and olive trees in the village. The official also denounced the “official silence” in the face of this mass destruction, warning that Houla could soon become a “disaster-stricken village” if the demolitions continued.
Meanwhile, on Sunday morning, artillery fire targeted the al-Dabshe site on the outskirts of Kfar Roummane (Nabatieh). In Zawtar Gharbieh, in the same district, Israeli artillery was reported over the Litani river, which runs through the village, and an Apache helicopter opened fire toward the river, alongside gunfire in the area. An Israeli army drone also carried out a strike on Nabatieh Fawqa.
In the Bint Jbeil district, artillery fire was directed at a house near Aita al-Jabal, in parallel with movements of Israeli vehicles at the outskirts of the village, near Haddatha (Bint Jbeil), following the arrival of residents who came to inspect their homes, while the Israeli army set homes ablaze and opened machine-gun fire. Israel also fired a stun grenade at the entrance to Sarbine.
In the Marjayoun district, Israeli vehicles were seen north of Mais al-Jabal, in the Wadi al-Jamal area. This movement was accompanied by artillery fire at a village home as well as machine-gun fire. Early Sunday morning, Israeli artillery struck the outskirts of Touline, near Wadi Hojeir, our correspondent reported.
Artillery fire also targeted the locality of Mansouri (Sour).
Israeli operations overnight from Saturday to Sunday
On Saturday night, a major demolition was reported in Tallousa (Marjayoun), while a helicopter fired on Touline, also in the same district.
Israeli military vehicles were seen between Mansouri and Majdal Zoun, as well as at Bouyout al-Siyyad (Sour). An Israeli Merkava tank fired missiles at Mansouri, which was also targeted by airstrikes and missiles.
In the Nabatieh district, Israeli artillery fire targeted Dohat Kfar Roummane, while an Israeli army drone fired on Zawtar Sharqieh. Israel also dropped phosphorus bombs on the forests of the Ali Taher hill, and Israeli military vehicles were spotted in Mayfadoun, which was also targeted by artillery fire.
Heavy machine-gun fire was also reported in Haddatha (Bint Jbeil), with the village coming under artillery and machine-gun fire after midnight. Israeli artillery also concentrated on the locality of Braasheet.
