An Israeli strike killed two Palestinians, including a three-year-old child, in central Gaza on Sunday, according to local medical sources.
According to rescue workers cited by Reuters, the strike, carried out near a bakery in Deir al-Balah, killed a man, named Hussam Nusair, as well as a three-year-old boy, Tayyem Hamdan, and left several others wounded.
Gaza's Health Ministry said Sunday that four people were killed and 14 injured as a result of Israeli strikes carried out in the past 24 hours against the besieged Palestinian territory. It also reported that a fifth person died after succumbing to wounds sustained during a previous Israeli attack.
A "cease-fire" backed by the United States, which took effect in October 2025, was intended to end Israel's genocidal war against the Palestinians in Gaza but never stopped Israeli bombardments, which continue almost daily. Israel's ongoing attacks have killed at least 1,318 Palestinians and injured 4,375 others since the "cease-fire" was reached.
Hamas accuses Israel of violating the cease-fire and undermining efforts to implement a broader plan backed by U.S. President Donald Trump to end the ongoing war in Gaza since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack. The plan includes the Israeli withdrawal from the enclave, over 60% of whose territory is occupied by Israel, as well as the disarmament of Hamas.
In July, Hamas dissolved its institutions in Gaza and agreed to a roadmap on its disarmament before announcing it was handing over management of the Gaza Strip to a technocratic government. But Israel rejected the agreement, demanding the total and verifiable disarmament of Hamas.
