BEIRUT — Nine Israeli strikes targeted the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday, after the area was threatened the previous day by the Israeli military, after calling for the evacuation of four of its neighborhoods.

The bombings hit the neighborhoods of Jamous, between Haret Hreik and Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Bir al-Abed, and the vicinity of the "Raya" stadium.

Overnight, Israeli warplanes bombed the area 11 times. After these airstrikes, AFPTV footage from the southern districts of the capital showed gutted buildings and burned-out vehicles in streets emptied of their residents.

The Israeli military said Friday morning it had targeted the "Executive Council headquarters" of Hezbollah and a drone warehouse overnight.

In a message on X, Israeli military Arabic-language spokesperson Avichay Adraee claimed 26 "waves of strikes" had been carried out on the southern suburbs since the escalation in Lebanon began Sunday night into Monday, specifying that Hezbollah "military infrastructure" had been bombed.

He added that the army had already destroyed Hezbollah's "headquarters" and "10 buildings housing" military assets.

On Thursday around 3 p.m., the Israeli military had called for the evacuation of the neighborhoods of Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Chiyah, and Haret Hreik, in an unprecedented threat that prompted tens of thousands of people to evacuate.
