Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Social Development Minister Haneen Sayyed held a press conference on Wednesday at the Grand Serail.

"Our responsibility, as a state and as a society, is to stand by our fellow citizens forced to flee and to ensure they have everything they need with dignity, in a spirit of brotherhood and solidarity," Salam said.

"The displaced are victims: all forms of discrimination must be avoided. We must welcome all of them with humanity. We have begun to reinforce facilities in the reception centers," he added. "I will spare no effort to put an end to this devastating war," he went on to say.

The social development minister said the number of displaced people registered in shelters now stands at 83,847, the equivalent of 18,033 families. The previous evening, the number was 58,000. The number of open reception centers is now 399, she also noted.
