ISF resumes crackdown on speeding violations in attempt to address road safety

What began as a focused crackdown by the Interior Ministry on violations by motorcyclists and motorists is now extending to speeding.The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF), which reports to the ministry, published on Monday the number of speeding tickets issued in a single week: “4,072 violations” recorded from Feb. 9 to 16. According to ISF spokesperson Joseph Moussallem, this is the first release in what will be a weekly series. The goal: “to ensure citizens’ safety, deter reckless driving and reduce accidents.”The ISF did not specify which regions the motorists were cited in. The same statement added that “230 people were arrested during the same period for various offenses,” but did not cross-reference this figure with the number of speeding violations.
