The army chief is multiplying his visits abroad to rally international support for the troops. However, the regional context could outpace his efforts.

Lebanese Army Chief Rodolph Haykal has no respite. In recent days, he made one visit after another ahead of the March 5 conference in Paris in support of the Lebanese Army.This event, pivotal for the future of the military institution that must carry out the highly sensitive task of disarming Hezbollah across the country, is supposed to reveal how much trust the international community places in the army and its efforts.The conference will also indicate whether donors will support the army and meet its needs without tying their aid to the completion of the next stages of the militia disarmament plan, as the United States and Saudi Arabia have done until now.
