The Lebanese University (LU) has set March 27 as the date for student elections, according to a statement issued by the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

"Student elections will be held across all faculties, institutes and branches of the university on Friday, March 27," university management said in the statement, announcing that a circular would soon be published outlining the deadlines and requirements for candidacy, voting procedures, the election calendar, as well as organizational and procedural details related to the process.

"This decision is in accordance with current laws and regulations, guarantees students’ right to democratic representation, and seeks to foster a culture of dialogue and responsible competition on campus," the statement added.

The university administration also invited students to "participate thoughtfully and responsibly to help ensure the democratic process succeeds, in keeping with the Lebanese University's national and academic role."

The elections had previously been suspended in 2024 due to the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
