Ahmad has the look of someone who has seen too much. On the sofa in a hotel room in Beirut’s Hamra district, where he has been living for three weeks with his mother, the teenager doesn’t know how to sit. The left sleeve of his orange sweatshirt is shorter than the right. On June 8, 2024, in Gaza, Ahmad went out to fetch water.In the midst of war with Hamas, Israel was then preventing the more than two million Palestinians from accessing the basic minimum of 15 liters of water per day to drink, cook, and wash, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).On the way back, an Israeli army strike destroyed the surrounding area.
