The financial public prosecutor, Maher Cheaito, on Monday filed charges on suspicion of corruption against three Finance Ministry officials stationed in Nabatieh, South Lebanon. Among them are the head of the Nabatieh finance office, as well as a department head and another employee, both of whom report to the director.
All three were arrested Monday by State Security, following instructions from the prosecutor. A month ago, the magistrate had ordered an investigation after receiving information indicating that these officials only processed administrative paperwork in exchange for bribes.
According to our information, Cheaito is expected to refer their case on Tuesday to the investigative judge in Nabatieh for further investigation.
