SOUTH LEBANON — One year after the start of a cease-fire that is routinely violated, the Israeli army on Thursday afternoon struck hills and valleys in the Mahmoudieh and Jarmak areas of Jezzine, South Lebanon.
These strikes by the Israeli air force are similar to those regularly launched on this wooded area north of the Litani, where the Israelis say they've struck Hezbollah military infrastructure, including rocket launch platforms and weapons depots.
According to information from our correspondent in the South, these strikes took place around 2 p.m. They first targeted the heights of Mahmoudieh, specifically the so-called "Nabaa al-Tasseh" hill, and the heights of Rihane, before also striking hills and valleys in the Jarmak region.
So far there have been no reports of casualties.
This region is regularly hit by raids, as Israel continues daily violations of the truce agreement, which took effect overnight on Nov. 26-27, 2024, after 13 months of war between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of large-scale offensive.
In addition to the daily strikes, the Israeli army continues to occupy at least six positions on Lebanese territory, which it continues to reinforce.
It is from the easternmost position along the border, on Hamames hill south of Khiam (in the Marjayoun district), that the Israeli army launched a stun grenade Thursday afternoon and fired toward a shepherd who was near the village of Mazraat Sarda, also on the outskirts of Khiam.
A team from the International Red Cross, accompanied by the Lebanese Army, also visited an area near Kfar Kila — previously off limits by order of the Israeli army — in order to search for the remains of people killed during the war, according to a local source.
On Wednesday night, shortly after 9 p.m., Israeli soldiers infiltrated South Lebanon around the Mais al-Jabal outskirts, coming from the Israeli position of al-Assi, our correspondent reports.
The soldiers crossed about a hundred meters into Lebanese territory and entered a house, which they searched.
After midnight, from the occupied Hamames hill, the Israeli army also fired machine guns at the outskirts of Khiam.
Flares were also launched toward Markaba (Marjayoun) from Israel, our correspondent continues.
According to residents, intense Israeli medium-automatic gunfire targeted the outskirts of Kfar Shuba, in the Hasbaya district, from the Roueissat el-Alam post, located on the disputed heights of that locality.
12,000 cease-fire violations, Israel reports 1,200 strikes
In a message published on Telegram, the Israeli army stated that it had carried out around “1,200 targeted operations,” claiming that each time it sought to “dismantle terrorist infrastructure, thwart attempts to gather intelligence on the Israeli army, and reduce Hezbollah’s military capabilities.”
It said that its troops have located “dozens of military structures, weapons depots, missile launch sites, missile launchers, as well as observation and firing positions” this year.
It claims to have neutralized more than 370 militants belonging to Hezbollah, Hamas, and various Palestinian militant organizations.
According to data analyzed by L’Orient Today Israel has violated the agreement more than 12,000 times, killing 343 people — including 136 civilians — between 27 Nov. 2024 and 14 November 2025.
