Former Lebanese telecom ministers face more than $35 million in penalties

Nicolas Sehnaoui, Jamal Jarrah, Mohammad Choucair and Johnny Corm are being held responsible for a series of costly real-estate decisions that squandered public funds. Boutros Harb has been cleared.

BEIRUT – Lebanon’s Court of Audit ordered on Nov. 20 four former telecom ministers to pay over $35 million in compensatory damages for a series of costly real-estate decisions that squandered public funds through the state-owned mobile operator MIC 2 (Touch).This is the first ruling of its kind issued by the Court.In 2023, the Court of Audit’s Second Chamber published a special report that examined a series of violations attributed to former telecommunications ministers Nicolas Sehnaoui, Boutros Harb, Jamal al-Jarrah, Mohammad Choucair, Talal Hawat and Johnny Corm.
