It’s true that just three months earlier, the Ain al-Rummaneh bus massacre had occurred, which everyone had nonetheless preferred to dismiss as an incident.Yes, "the news isn’t good," agreed Lebanese high society since April 13, all while biting into lobster sandwiches by the Phoenicia pool, under a sun that blurred everything. Inevitably, politics — or at least "the situation" — seeped into the conversations of summer nights, which still went on as if the season had its rights, as if nothing had happened, at Coral Beach, Excelsior or the Riviera.
