"In this time of political darkness, New York will be the light." In his victory speech on Nov. 4, the newly elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, gives hope. At 34, the Uganda-born son of Indian descent becomes the first Muslim mayor of the largest city in the United States.For someone who openly supports the Palestinian cause, the task ahead is as daunting as expectations are high; President Donald Trump has called him "a communist" and threatened to cut federal funding to the city.
