On July 10, the Beirut Waterfront will pulse with the unmistakable sound of Queen — not from Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor or John Deacon, but from God Save the Queen, the Argentine tribute band hailed as the most faithful to the legendary rock group. Their goal: to recreate Queen’s energy and spirit on stage, not just offer a nostalgic homage.
For more than 50 years, Queen has transcended genres and generations with a musical style that blended rock, opera, pop and gospel. Formed in London in 1970, the band carved out a place in history with anthems like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.” But Queen wasn’t just about music — it was about performance. With Freddie Mercury’s magnetic voice and theatrical charisma, the group built a legacy of spectacle, unity and raw emotion that continues to resonate.
A living tribute
That’s the magic God Save the Queen aims to channel. The band’s global reputation is built on one principle: making audiences forget they’re not watching the original lineup.
“For us, it’s not an act — it’s something we live on stage,” said Dani Marcos, guitarist for the band. “I think Queen’s music chose me. At eight years old, I picked up a guitar just to play their songs.”
That early connection drives their deep commitment to authenticity. “When we perform, we truly believe we are Queen. That’s the only way to deliver something real to the audience,” Marcos told L’Orient-Le Jour.
On July 10, as part of the Beirut Holidays festival, God Save the Queen and frontman Pablo Padin — a striking Mercury lookalike — hope to offer more than a concert. Their aim is a full immersion into the world of Queen.
“We want people to feel like they’ve traveled 40 years back in time — like they’re actually seeing Freddie and the band live,” Marcos said. “Sharing that illusion is our mission.”
For one night in Beirut, audiences will get a chance to relive the electricity of a band that redefined rock and captured hearts across the globe. Between every chord and chorus, the spirit of Freddie Mercury will be alive and unmistakable.
