The Civil Defense announced Friday that it had controlled a major fire that broke out at dawn in a warehouse belonging to the establishment "Homescape" in Taanayel, in the Bekaa. The warehouse belongs to the protest-inspired MP Yassine Yassine and his family, the MP posted on Facebook. The flames "completely ravaged two hangars with all their contents," Yassine said, confirming that the losses were "only material."
In a statement, the organization announced that it had been alerted by a call at 5 a.m. about a fire in this hangar. Firefighters from various regional centers in the Bekaa, including Bednayel, Baalbeck, Ferzol, Riyak, Zahle, Ammiq, Masnaa, Ghazzeh and Kfar Meshki, as well as two tankers from the Sohmor center, were mobilized and immediately went to the scene.
The warehouse where the fire started is approximately 2,000 square meters and includes two hangars, a two-story office building, as well as an underground warehouse, according to the Civil Defense. According to the report, the fire "started on the ground floor, in one of the hangars used for storing sanitary and electrical equipment, including plastic materials, electrical tapes, PVC material sheets, and some furniture, which intensified the smoke density and the ferocity of the fire."
The mobilized teams confirmed they succeeded in containing the flames in a single hangar, preventing "their spread to neighboring buildings and warehouses, including the underground warehouse, after hours of uninterrupted efforts." The reported damages were exclusively material.
