Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jassim Mohammed al-Badawi emphasized the "firm and unwavering positions" of GCC countries towards Lebanon during a meeting on Tuesday with Lebanon's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Fawzi Kabbara, on the occasion of the end of his duties in Saudi Arabia
According to a statement from the general secretariat, Badawi hosted a reception on Tuesday at the headquarters of the general secretariat in Riyadh in Kabbara's honor. On this occasion, he stated that GCC member states, made up of the six Arab monarchies of the Persian Gulf, are committed to "enhancing the security and stability" of Lebanon and expressed the willingness of Gulf countries to contribute to "the prosperity and development of the Lebanese brotherly people."
Among the topics discussed were ways to develop and strengthen these relations and the arrangements to ensure tracking of the "positive developments (...) of prosperity and security" in the country. The two officials also reviewed regional and international developments.
Last January, President Joseph Aoun promised, following his inauguration, to revitalize relations between Lebanon and the Gulf countries on "new bases of cooperation." Since then, UAE lifted its travel ban on Lebanon, as other diplomatic breakthroughs continue in the region.
