BEIRUT — President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Friday condemned Israel’s overnight strikes on Iran, which killed several top commanders and nuclear scientists. They warned the attacks could have serious consequences for both regional and global stability.

This warning comes as the country is attempting to recover from a devastating war lasting several months between the pro-Iranian Hezbollah and Israel, which caused over 4,000 deaths in Lebanon.

Hezbollah has not yet commented on these strikes.

Aoun wrote on X that Israel's "aggressions" against Iran "were not only aimed at the Iranian people but also at all international efforts undertaken to preserve stability in the Middle East." He stated that "such aggressions were intended to undermine all current initiatives and mediations to prevent the situation from worsening, initiatives that had already reached an important milestone," before calling on the international community for "swift and effective action to prevent Israel from achieving its objectives, now evident to all, which, if realized, could have the most severe consequences." Aoun expressed condolences to the Iranian leadership for the victims of the Israeli attacks at dawn, whether they were military officials or civilians, while wishing a speedy recovery to the wounded.

Salam firmly condemned "the serious Israeli aggression against Iran," considering it "a blatant violation of international law and Iran's sovereignty, and its repercussions threaten the stability of the entire region and even world peace."
