‘Wedding Day at the Cro-Magnons,’ the play that should have been in Beirut
The Théâtre de la Colline in Paris is presenting Wajdi Mouawad’s play "Wedding Day at the Cro-Magnons" until June 29. The success has been immense, and the dramatic and scenic prowess spectacular.

In the spring of 2024, "Wedding Day at the Cro-Magnons" should have been staged and then performed in Beirut at the Monnot Theater. Various factors thwarted the project, and the troupe was forced to leave the country due to intimidation and threats. The play was finally created in June 2024 at the Printemps des comédiens festival in Montpellier. It is currently being performed at the Théâtre de la Colline, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. Spectators who usually arrive well in advance to enjoy the warm and relaxed atmosphere of the pre-show were delighted. Around the large rectangular tables of the café, conversations flowed between Lebanese spectators, happy to attend a play in Arabic, and those who will understand the story through the scenography, the actors' performance, and the subtitles.Wajdi Mouawad wrote the play...
