Former minister Wi’am Wahab, leader of the Tawhid party, was convicted of defamation and slander by the sole criminal judge of Beirut, Fatmeh Jouni. He was sentenced to two months in prison, to pay Judge Ghada Abu Karroum one billion Lebanese Lira in damages, and to publish the verdict in two local newspapers. This conviction was made under Article 383 of the Penal Code, which penalizes anyone who has harmed a civil servant or magistrate in the exercise of their duties.The judgment was issued following a case dating back to 2017.
