Defense Minister Michel Menassa announced on Wednesday a decision to suspend gun licenses in the South Lebanon and Nabatieh governorates from Friday, May 23 at midnight to Monday, May 26 at midnight, covering the period from the eve of the municipal elections to the day after.
The fourth and final phase of the municipal elections in Lebanon will take place on Saturday, May 24 in South Lebanon and Nabatieh.
The suspension of gun licenses, as per the minister's decision, includes exceptions, notably for the weapons of diplomatic missions and those of political figures' guards, when accompanying them.
This decision does not apply to other regions of the country. Any violations will lead to prosecution, the decision text concludes.
