General Edgar Lawandos, director of the State Security Department, toured the regional directorates of Akkar and North Lebanon with the Chief of Staff, Brigadier Jamil Taameh, reported the state-run National News Agency (NNA). He inspected the sites, discussed with the military the challenges, successes and needs of the army, and gave directives to improve the performance of personnel deployed in the region. He stressed the importance of "security preparations, strict application of the law, fighting corruption, and team spirit," highlighting the key role of this service for Lebanon's stability.

Lebanese authorities have recently warned of the "sharp increase" in the number of Syrian refugees arriving in the north since the beginning of the massacres against Alawites in Syria in March. In a recent count on April 1, the Disaster Management Chamber recorded the arrival of 20,496 Syrian displaced persons in 27 predominantly Alawite localities in the Akkar region.
