The Interior Minister, Ahmad Hajjar, presided over a security meeting on Thursday during which several measures were taken for the Eid al-Fitr period this weekend, reported the state-run National News Agency (NNA).

Hajjar asked the services to "strengthen their patrols and presence ... intensify efforts in intelligence and preventive security throughout Lebanon ... and take necessary measures to combat crime, particularly armed robberies and shootings." Border security measures were also discussed.

Lebanon is preparing to celebrate Eid al-Fitr this weekend, marking the end of the month of Ramadan.

The meeting took place at the Interior Ministry, attended notably by the heads of the Internal Security Forces (ISF), Raed Abdallah, General Security, Hassan Choucair, State Security, Edgard Lawandos, as well as the governor of Beirut, Marwan Abboud.

In early March, the interior minister met with ISF representatives to discuss security in Beirut and Tripoli, calling for "strengthening measures" to prevent tensions. A comprehensive security plan for the month of Ramadan was implemented in March in Tripoli, with roadblocks and the deployment of motorized and foot patrols throughout the city.
