Brussels stepped up its efforts for Syria. On Monday, the European Union (EU) held the 9th edition of the donors' conference on Syria in the Belgian capital. This year's goal was to rally international financial support around the new authorities while offsetting the impact of Washington's decisions to suspend its aid.  One of the pillars of development aid has significantly diminished if not completely disappeared, a European official told AFP, noting that the U.S. had been Syria's largest international donor, according to the U.N. "But there is a window of opportunity," the official added. "It is not very wide open, so we must take advantage of it, or it will be too late."
