Joumblatt opens a new chapter: Yes to Damascus, no to normalization with Israel
Nearly 50 years after March 16, 1977, the Druze leader ended the tradition of commemorating his father’s assassination, following Assad’s fall and the arrest of the “person responsible.”

This year, the commemoration of the assassination of his father, Kamal Joumblatt — the founder of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), who was killed on March 16, 1977 — is unlike any other.
