BEIRUT — Hezbollah's Secretary-General Naim Qassem met on Wednesday with Iran's Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, according to Hezbollah's television channel Al Manar.

According to local media outlets, Qassem discussed the latest developments in the local, regional and international scene with Ghalibaf, Araghchi and the Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani.

These outlets added that this was Qassem's first public meeting since he was appointed as Hezbollah's Secretary-General on Oct. 29, more than a month after Nasrallah's assassination.

Ghalibaf and Araghchi visited Lebanon to attend the funeral of Hezbollah's former Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and the latter's chosen successor, Hashem Safieddine, last Sunday.

Accompanied by several members of the Iranian government and Parliament, they also met last Sunday with the Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.

This visit by the Iranian delegation comes as the Salam government announced on Feb. 17 the indefinite suspension of flights between Beirut and Tehran. This decision followed the refusal of Lebanese authorities to allow two planes from the Iranian airline Mahan Air to land after several American warnings suggesting that Israel might bomb Beirut's airport if these flights continued.
