Prime Minister Nawaf Salam submitted his declaration of assets and interests to the National Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday, whose headquarters is located in the Verdun neighborhood of Beirut, according to a message posted on the prime minister's X account. He also held discussions with magistrate Claude Karam, who chairs this institution established by Law No. 175 of May 8, 2020, but which was only formed at the end of January 2022.
The registration of asset and wealth declarations by civil servants and public agents is part of its prerogatives. The law stipulates that anyone occupying a public function ranging from the 4th category up to the position of president must submit their declaration shortly after taking office. If this is not done, they are considered as having resigned, among other legal consequences.
