'Casting Amneh': A refreshing adaptation of a French vaudeville at Le Monnot theater

Produced and directed by Josyane Boulos, brilliantly performed by a duo of young actors, this Lebanese adaptation of a French vaudeville takes the (large) audience at the Monnot, for a little over an hour, into a funny, fast-paced and uninterrupted closed-door scenario.

It is a story of totally opposite characters who should never have met. An improbable and wildly funny encounter between Badih (Ali Bleibel), a budding actor desperately waiting, from his bed, for the casting that will reveal his talent to the world, and Abed (Jalal el-Chaar), a secret service agent tasked with surveilling, throughout the night, the building across the street from Badih’s. When he arrives, gun slung over his shoulder and muscles tensed under his black T-shirt, at the frail actor’s place to set up his observation post, trouble begins for the latter, especially since he lacks the necessary skills to cooperate in the hunt for mobsters. In short, for the aspiring star who “already saw himself at the top of the bill” and the one who rudely wakes him, the night will be long, eventful, and especially hilarious.The quirky...
