National Litani Office destroys buildings occupied by Palestinian groups

The National Litani Office proceeded on Tuesday with the demolition in Bekaa of "buildings, installations and guard posts" previously occupied by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command (PFLP-GC) and Fateh Intifada (a movement born from a split within Fateh), reports a statement from the Office received by our correspondent in the region.

In shared videos, a bulldozer destroys at least four constructions and clears several areas in Bar Elias and Ain al-Bayda (Baalbeck-Hermel governorate). These buildings were erected "illegally" by Palestinian groups on land belonging to the Office, the statement adds. The public body also filed "several complaints with the judiciary" against the individuals concerned.

The PFLP-GC and Fateh Intifada were close to the Assad regime, which was overthrown in early December in Syria. After the fall of the Syrian regime, the Lebanese army regained control of several sites previously held by this group and Fateh Intifada in Bekaa, notably near the border with Syria.
