The Lebanese President, General Joseph Aoun, received the Spanish Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, on Tuesday, who assured him of Spain's "support" to obtain "stability in the south" of Lebanon, according to a report from the National News Agency (NNA).

Also on Tuesday, Robles met with her Lebanese counterpart, caretaker Defense Minister Maurice Slim, in Yarze. The meeting was attended by the Spanish ambassador to Lebanon, Jesus Santos Aguado, as well as UNIFIL commander Major-General Aroldo Lazaro.

Military cooperation between the two countries was discussed during this meeting, the statement said, as well as the important role played by the Spanish contingent within UNIFIL in South Lebanon, whose continued participation was confirmed by Margarita Robles.

"Spain will continue to support Lebanon in all areas and will strengthen the existing cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese army to stabilize the south," she declared.
