Israeli government approves cease-fire deal with Hamas

Early Saturday, the Israeli government approved a cease-fire plan with Hamas that includes the release of hostages held in Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, according to an official statement.

“The government has approved the hostage release plan,” the brief statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said. “The plan will take effect on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2025,” it added.
