BEIRUT — Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received an official invitation to visit Jordan on Thursday, delivered by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on behalf of King Abdullah II. Safadi conveyed the king's message during a meeting with Aoun at Baabda Presidential Palace.

Following his talks with the president, Safadi emphasized Jordan’s commitment to supporting Lebanon. He stated that "Jordan reiterates its support for the Lebanese Army and intends to participate in the reconstruction" of Lebanon, following the destructive war with Israel. He also underscored the importance of respecting Lebanon's sovereignty and stability, calling on Israel to honor the cease-fire agreement that took effect on Nov. 27, 2024. Despite the truce, daily violations by Israeli forces persist.

Aoun, who was elected on Jan. 9, has seen a flurry of diplomatic outreach from Arab nations. Saudi Arabia extended the first invitation shortly after his election, and on Thursday, Qatar followed suit, with its ambassador in Beirut delivering a similar message.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Lebanon on Friday, marking the first visit by a foreign head of state since Aoun’s election. Macron’s visit comes as the country awaits the formation of its new government, to be led by Prime Minister-elect Nawaf Salam.
