The two men discussed “the current situation and the challenges facing Lebanon.” Aoun also praised the speech Salam delivered at the presidential palace on Tuesday following his appointment as head of the government and expressed his support for the statements made. He finally wished him success in his mission for the good of Lebanon and the Lebanese people.

During Monday’s binding parliamentary consultations, Salam secured the absolute majority of votes, with 84, compared to nine for the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and 35 blank votes. After accepting his designation on Tuesday from the presidential palace in Baabda and meeting with President Joseph Aoun and the Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, he committed to “immediately getting to work” to initiate the “construction project of the new Lebanon.”
