Nearly 100 people were killed in Israeli air strikes on Gaza in the past 24 hours, Reuters reported on Friday citing Palestinian health authorities.

The Gaza health ministry said 27 people were killed early on Friday, after 71 were killed a day earlier including in Al-Mawasi, an area in central Gaza previously declared as a humanitarian safe zone by Israeli authorities.

The Israeli military said it had hit around 40 Hamas gathering points as well as command and control centers.

Israel's assault on Gaza, which started in October 2023, killed 45,581 Palestinians according to the Gaza health ministry and displaced most residents from their homes.

The recent escalation in operations and casualties coincides with renewed efforts to secure a cease-fire, as Israeli envoys traveled to Doha on Thursday to resume negotiations brokered by Qatari and Egyptian mediators.
