On Thursday, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri met in Ain al-Tineh with American Brigadier General Jasper Jeffers, a member of the committee overseeing the implementation of the cease-fire agreement with Israel. Jeffers was accompanied by his military staff.

The meeting, attended by U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa Johnson and Berri's media advisor, Ali Hamdan, focused on the latest developments in Lebanon, including the committee's missions. The cease-fire, which began on Nov. 27, has been violated repeatedly by Israel and once by Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, French Brigadier General Guillaume Ponchin, representing France in the committee, visited Lebanese Army Commander-in-Chief General Joseph Aoun’s office in Yarze. Pochin was accompanied by the French Ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro.

Earlier in the day, French diplomats reaffirmed that "the supervision mechanism will monitor the implementation of the cease-fire between Israel and Lebanon. It will also work with the Military Technical Support Committee for Lebanon to contribute to the build-up of the Lebanese Armed Forces and their deployment in southern Lebanon, to which France reaffirms its support, as part of the implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701."

The cease-fire monitoring committee, composed of representatives from the Lebanese Army and Israeli army, France, the United States and the U.N. Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), is tasked with determining responsibility for violations. Any violations must be reported to the committee. Lebanese authorities have condemned "more than 60 violations" of the cease-fire by Israel since its implementation.
