The Lebanese army said Monday morning that it had found the remains of an officer in his car in Naqoura in south Lebanon the day before, "the victim of a targeted strike by the Israeli enemy." According to the statement published on the military institution's website, "contact with him had been lost since Nov. 26," the day before the cease-fire between Hezbollah and Israel came into force.
According to L'Orient Today's correspondent, the officer was attached to the navy and was called Hussein Younes. The strike that killed him could have been from an Israeli drone, carried out about a week ago, according to preliminary information. The Civil Defense, accompanied by soldiers, moved the body.
Contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour, the army did not have any further information at this time and is awaiting the results of the investigation. Also contacted, UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon), which operates in the region, did not have any additional information.
The clashes between Hezbollah and Israel, which began on Oct. 8, 2023, escalated into an all-out war in late September, with an expanded offensive led by Israel in Lebanon, accompanied by a ground offensive. Several Lebanese soldiers and officers were killed in Israeli strikes during this conflict.
