On Thursday, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri convened Parliament at Nejmeh Square to approve the much-anticipated second extension of the mandate for the army’s commander in chief Joseph Aoun. During the session, which French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian attended, Berri announced that the next presidential election session will be held Jan. 9, 2025.This marks the first presidential election session since June 14, 2023, signaling Lebanon’s official intent to move forward with state normalization following the cease-fire with Israel. Berri expressed optimism, stating that this 13th electoral session may finally deliver a president.
