Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Boukhari extended an official invitation to caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to attend the upcoming Arab Islamic Summit scheduled to be held in Riyadh on Nov. 11, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA). The two men met at the Grand Serail.
"In light of the worsening crisis witnessed by our brothers in the State of Palestine, the spread of the conflict to the Lebanese Republic and the spread of the effects of the crisis to the countries of the region, and based on the common desire of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and a number of brotherly Arab and Islamic countries to take a firm stance on the heinous crimes committed against the brotherly Palestinian people, the continued Israeli violations of Islamic holy sites in the State of Palestine and the blatant attacks on Lebanese territory, the Kingdom intends to host an extraordinary joint Arab and Islamic follow-up summit in the city of Riyadh," said the invitation, also relayed by the NNA.
According to recent reports, the summit is expected to focus on aid to Gaza, a possible cease-fire in the enclave, as well as the two-state solution and the Arab peace plan. Support for a cease-fire in Lebanon could also be high on the agenda.
