A video circulating on social media showing a child tied to what appears to be the trunk of a thick bush was posted on X on Monday evening. According to the description given by the individual who posted it, the scene took place in Baakline in Chouf, where “young men” found the child, identified as being of Syrian nationality, tied with a chain “by his father.” The video shows the people who discovered the child trying to free him. The man stressed that the most “horrible” thing was that the child did not want to be released, for fear that his father “would slaughter him.”
The president of the municipal council, Abdallah Sleiman al-Ghossayni, confirmed the main elements of this incident. "A Syrian worker living in Baakline with his family, who was discovered to have murdered his daughter and buried her in the garden of the house, is being held at the city police station while waiting to be brought before the public prosecutor. He is the one who tied his son up in the field so that he would not reveal what he had done," he added, without giving further details.
This is the second time in a few days that Baakline has made headlines on social media, during the war between Hezbollah and Israel. On Sunday afternoon, an inconsequential altercation between displaced Lebanese fleeing Israeli bombings and local residents seeking to check their identity was also filmed and shared on social media.
