Israeli army issues new evacuation warning for Baalbeck region amid planned strikes on Hezbollah

The Israeli military issued a new call on Sunday for residents to evacuate certain areas in the Baalbeck region, in eastern Lebanon, warning of upcoming strikes against Hezbollah.

“You are located near Hezbollah facilities and interests,” said Avichay Adraee, the army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, in a message on X accompanied by target maps. These maps identified four buildings in Baalbeck, including one directly adjacent to the city’s government hospital.

Adraee also called for the evacuation of a building in the village of Douris, located a few kilometers south of the ancient city known for its ensemble of Roman temples listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“For your safety and that of your family members, you must immediately evacuate the targeted building and those adjacent to it, and stay at least 500 meters away for the next four hours,” specified Colonel Adraee in his messages.

Baalbeck and Douris had already been targeted by a series of strikes earlier in the week, following consecutive evacuation warnings from the Israeli army, leading to the displacement of thousands of people.

Additionally, on Sunday morning, the Israeli army reported “several projectiles” launched from Lebanon toward Israeli territory. Some were intercepted while others landed in open areas, the army stated. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for about ten rocket attacks, including strikes on border towns and the occupied Syrian Golan.

In response, the Israeli military carried out several air raids on southern Lebanon and the Bekaa region.
