BEIRUT — In the Bekaa region’s village of Saraain, Serum and Solutions saw its production come to a standstill almost a month ago. Dr. Hamad Abdallah, general manager of Serum and Solutions — whose family also owns Rayak Hospital in the Bekaa — was supplying all types of IV fluid bags to public and private hospitals across Lebanon. “When Israeli violence escalated after Sep. 23, our village [Saraain] became one of the hardest-hit areas,” explains Abdallah, who had been the latest to join the market, launching his 10,000 square meter factory in 2020 with 120 employees. Their workers, who had been living in close proximity to the plant all fled when strikes came too close.
