“My Lord, I stand at your door, hands extended. Who but You, my unwavering refuge, can I turn to?” From these lines in a religious poem sung by Sheikh Naqshabandy, Serene Ghandour drew the theme for her second solo exhibition at Mission Art: I Stand at Your Door.She was still a fine arts student at the Lebanese American University (LAU) when she caught the attention of Toufic al-Zein and Ghiath Machnok, two avid patrons of Middle Eastern arts who founded Mission Art to support promising regional talent.Ghandour’s paintings already convey a raw intensity and freedom that have become her signature.Shortly after graduating with honors, she took on a temporary job, which she abandoned at the onset of Lebanon’s economic crisis in 2019.
