A fire that had been brought under control Saturday in a forest in Biré, in the Chouf, reignited during the night, a spokesperson for the Civil Defense told L'Orient-Le Jour.

The flames burned new green spaces but did not approach the village’s residential areas. Civil Defense teams are attempting to extinguish the fire, which is spreading rapidly due to wind speed.

According to the spokesperson, the causes of the fire remain unknown. However, he noted that the blaze, which had been contained the previous day, flared up again in a different area.

Several fires were reported to firefighters on Saturday, including one in North Lebanon, another at the border of Metn and Kesrouan, and at least three others in the districts of Chouf and Aley. In a statement released Saturday, the Civil Defense reported "more than 20 grass and tree fires," urging citizens not to "start any fires to avoid further ecological disasters."
