Funeral of Lebanese Army commander killed in Israeli airstrike takes place in Beirut and Zgharta

BEIRUT — The funeral ceremony for Lebanese Army commander Mohammad Farhat, killed in an Israeli airstrike on Thursday, took place Saturday in front of Beirut's military hospital before his body was transported to the village of Rachin in the Zgharta district, where his family is temporarily residing.

The Israeli army killed Farhat and two Lebanese Army soldiers near the village of Yater in the Bint Jbeil district on Thursday while they were conducting an operation to evacuate wounded individuals.

Farhat's family has moved to Rachin due to the ongoing war between Hezbollah and Israel, which has displaced approximately 1.4 million people in Lebanon.

A ceremony was held outside the military hospital in Beirut, attended by Lebanese Army commander Joseph Aoun, military officers, Farhat's relatives and residents from his hometown, according to northern correspondent Michel Hallak.

Later, Farhat's body was received in the courtyard of Mar Maroun Church in Rachin, where his family and displaced people from the South welcomed him with fireworks, roses and flowers.

Farhat was then temporarily buried in Rachin due to the current situation, with plans for his family to later bury him in the family cemetery in the South.
