Pressure on Berri mounts

Israel has expanded its target bank to include areas with a strong Amal Movement presence, following the meeting that brought together Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein.

As soon as U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein left Beirut, Israel unleashed a barrage of fire near the capital. Late on Monday night, Israel carried several strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. While these attacks have been almost daily since late September, those on that night were different. The Israeli army targeted for the first time Ouzai and Jnah, two dilapidated neighborhoods often associated with Hezbollah’s ally, Nabih Berri’s Amal Movement, not with Hezbollah itself. The al-Sahel hospital, run by Amal MP Fadi Alameh, was also threatened by the Israelis, who accused Hezbollah of hiding millions of dollars in its basements.
