Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Beirut on Saturday morning and began his tour by meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Nagib Mikati.
Ghalibaf was welcomed at Beirut international airport by Mohammad Khawaja, a deputy from the Shiite Amal movement, representing Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, along with Hezbollah deputies Hassan Ezzeddine and Ibrahim Moussaoui, according to the National News Agency (NNA).
"We have always stood by the Lebanese people, their resistance, and the Lebanese government," Ghalibaf stated at the airport. "At the end of my tour, I will go to Geneva and carry with me the issues of the oppressed Lebanese and Palestinian peoples," he added.
The Iranian parliament speaker is expected to meet with Berri and several party leaders and deputies, as noted by NNA. His visit comes less than ten days after that of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Araghchi was the first Iranian diplomat to set foot in Lebanon since the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Sept. 27 in an Israeli strike. He expressed his country's efforts to achieve a simultaneous ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza.
