As patients with skin burnt and charred by Israeli air strikes continue to fill the ward, Lebanon’s only major burns center at Geitaoui Hospital says it's running out of money to care for the injured.

BEIRUT — In the corridors of Geitaoui Hospital’s Burn Center, an acrid stench hangs heavily in the air: The smell of skin — burnt, charred and now, infected. It is 10:35 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, and medical staff are doing their daily bandage changes.Since Sept. 23, when Israel suddenly intensified its air strikes across Lebanon, medical staff here have not stopped working. The 22 beds that once lay empty for months, have since been continuously occupied by patients, some of whose arms, legs and faces no longer have their skin. Among them are two children. Currently, there are just two beds available. The hospital has already doubled its capacity, transforming the ground floor to make way for 12 more beds.
