Israeli special forces have conducted targeted raids in southern Lebanon "in anticipation of a potential ground offensive that could begin as early as this week," several sources told the Wall Street Journal. These raids involved "incursions into Hezbollah tunnels along the border and have taken place recently as well as in the past few months, as part of a broader Israeli effort to diminish the military capabilities of the party along the Lebanese-Israeli border," the sources said.

"The timing of any ground action could change," according to the WSJ. "Israel is under significant pressure from the United States not to launch a major invasion. It is still unclear how long Israel would seek to hold the territory or if the incursion would resemble a series of larger raids."
