BEIRUT — The bodies of two Hezbollah members killed by the Israeli army on Lebanon’s southern border on Monday were taken by Israeli forces, a security source told L'Orient Today's correspondent in the south on Friday.
The two Hezbollah members currently held hostage are from southern Lebanon, our correspondent reported citing a security source.
So far, Hezbollah has not yet issued any statements about the incident. Also, the party did not respond when contacted by L'Orient Today.
The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom alleged Friday that “three Hezbollah operatives managed to place remotely activated explosive devices on the border on Monday. Soldiers who noticed them opened fire, killing two of them, while the third managed to escape. The bodies of the two operatives were transferred to Israeli territory yesterday.”
The Israeli army claimed Thursday to have killed two people attempting "to plant a bomb" near a military outpost on the Lebanese border, Haaretz reported.
Arabic spokesperson for the Israeli army, Avichay Adraee, stated Thursday that "Israeli forces, which set up an ambush on the northern border earlier this week, spotted two Hezbollah operatives planting an explosive device targeting our forces on the Lebanese border. The forces directed artillery and air fire to kill the operatives, who attempted to detonate the explosive device in [northern Israel.]”
