A Lebanese soldier, A.H., was killed on Monday by another member of the army in the center of the army battalion of Roumieh in Mount Lebanon, a battalion in which they both serve, an army spokesperson reported to L'Orient-Le Jour, confirming information reported by several local media outlets. A statement from the army published in the afternoon confirmed the information.
The soldier died instantly from a bullet to the head fired from a gun. The shooter was arrested by the military police and an investigation has been opened. The victim was from the Jabal Mohsen neighborhood in Tripoli (North Lebanon).
According to the spokesperson contacted by L'Orient-Le Jour, the shooting "did not come from a dispute or a fight, but was committed by mistake." The shooter "had family problems," said the same source without providing further details. The army statement also said that the shooting "was probably the result of an error."
